About Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable medication. It targets two incretin hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, making it the first of its kind to act on both pathways simultaneously.
In the UK, Mounjaro is licensed for two indications: the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, and, following MHRA approval in 2023, for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m² or above, or 27 kg/m² or above with at least one weight-related comorbidity.
As a prescription-only medication, it can only be supplied following a consultation with a qualified prescriber, in line with GPhC professional standards.
What Makes Mounjaro Different?

- Participants lost an average of 11.2 kg, more than double the 5.7 kg seen with semaglutide
SURMOUNT-1 — Weight Management
In adults without diabetes, the 15 mg dose produced results that reshaped expectations for the category:
- Average weight reduction of up to 22.5% of starting body weight across 72 weeks
